Easy flight from Auckland to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific and short walk to airport hotel on Lantau Island. Took airport express fast train to Hong Kong central to experience downtown. Very hot (32 deg) and steamy with occasional torrential rain.
First stop was the peak lookout which we decided to walk to. Instant film of sweat when you step out of aircon, huge crowds of people pushing through to where they want to go and amazing network of walkways built one story above road.
The peak looking out over Hong Kong central. Forty five minute wait for team ride to the top then 5 stories up in lookout building. The cable car us similar to wellington's by much steeper.
Took short double decker bus tour back to shopping mall. Sat upstairs until a few drops of rain turned torrential within seconds. Moved to lower level and watched rivers of water flow from top deck to slosh around downstairs
Spent a couple of hours shopping. Neil bought new lens for his camera fir about half the cost in NZ. Finished off the day with a facial& massage back at hotel before midnight flight to Paris. Boarding gate was at furtherest point involving long walks, long travelators, a fast train and more long walks.
Flight from HK to Paris was very easy. Neil slept for 12 hours. A late departure. two failed attempts at attaching the air bridge and a wait forthe bike meant we were running late for our rendezvous with the tour group. We arrived at Terminal 2 with no idea how to get to Terminal 1 but soon found it involved more long walks, long travelators and a fast train. Finally made it about 15 minutes late.
Sounds like the travelling will be good preparation for the fitness you’ll need to keep up on the tour! Quite ironic how much walking you have to do to achieve air travel!
ReplyDeleteMore pics please, especially of Neil looking puffed at the top of a flight of stairs. We need a baseline for how exhausted he'll look at the top of Mont Ventoux!
